February 15th: Speak Up Even If Your Voice Shakes
Led by Rev. Niki & Donna R.
Music by Trevor Neitz:
Trevor grew up in southern New Hampshire to a music-loving family. He spent many hours knelt next to the piano as his grandmother played hymns and nursery rhymes. A lifelong fan of the bagpipes, Trevor was finally able to take lessons after zoom became popular in 2021. He started attending the UUCSB later that year.
For our Sunday security, we lock the doors at 10:05. Ushers will monitor the doors until 10:15.

Message from Rev. Lori
Hello Good People,
I hope you are all doing very well! There is much wonderful activity this weekend as we have a Valentine’s game night and a coffee house all in the same weekend! Niki will speak about speaking up even when your voice quivers. Activities and events that put love at the center, which is of course our thing. Love can seem like a hollow word for some. A word that people overuse or throw around or a word that represents the Hallmark way of living. And those notions of love concern me a bit. They discount the commitment required in real love. The commitment to sometimes do the hard things and say the hard things that need to be said. But spoiler alert. That is what love requires of us.
Love without truth can become sentimentality. Truth without love can become cruelty. But where love and truth meet, something holy happens. To tell the truth in love is not to soften it until it disappears, nor to sharpen it until it wounds. It is to speak with the intention of connection rather than victory. It is to believe that the other person is worthy of honesty — and worthy of care. Love says, “You matter to me.” Truth says, “This matters.” Together they say, “Our relationship is strong enough to hold what is real.” At their intersection, we do not weaponize facts, nor do we hide behind politeness. We risk vulnerability. We say the hard thing gently. We listen as fiercely as we speak. We allow ourselves to be changed by what we hear. Love is the ground. Truth is the light. When they meet, they illuminate a path forward — not always easy, but always more whole.
Love fiercely in truth my friends!

Ongoing activities
Share the Plate: February
Each month, UUCSB chooses an organization to split weekly donations made by congregants during the course of Sunday services. As many of you attend virtually, we are providing an online venue for these donations.
This month, we ask for donations to be split between UUCSB’s general operating fund & IFKA Community Services. From their website, https://ifkacommunity.org/
Our founder recognized the necessity for increased representation of immigrant women. This realization gave birth to our organization: IFKA Community Services, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Lewiston, Maine. IFKA means Mother Earth in Somali. Since its inception, IFKA has been guided and fueled by the leadership of immigrant mothers. We came together to share our experiences, learn, understand, and make a difference in our community.
School Street Coffeehouse Fundraiser
School Street Coffeehouse is pleased to offer special edition stickers, donated by Thomas Clukey, as part of a $1 fundraiser.
Stickers will be available at Coffeehouse events, open mikes, and during Social Hour on Sundays. For those of you at a distance, stickers can be obtained by mail with a $1 donation and a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
Every sticker purchased will support and give visability to the Coffeehouse, helping sustain this brand new tradition at UUCSB.
Please note: Each Friday, the current Friday Flyer posts at 9 AM and the previous week’s Flyer is archived. Rev. Lori’s weekly messages remain online in the form of reflections. You can find the archive here.
