Rev. Lori: Don’t Stay In Your Seats!

A version of this reflection was originally published in the previous week’s Friday Flyer.

Hello Good People,

Dont Stay In Your Seats!  Worship Ministry Team chooses titles way ahead of schedule based on themes, important UU occasions and interfaith holidaysI We weave in topics important to our community and to justice, mercy, and love. I am regularly reminded of how strongly and deeply the spirit moves when a title and a theme address what is going on in our world as closely as it does this week.  It invites me to knit together our principles and values with life as we know it.  And here we are.

We are a faith community, even if we come from different faiths or no faith.  We walk together and support one another on our own individual spiritual journeys.  Faith without action is incomplete. Spiritual journey without witness is vacant.  It is important to practice our spirituality in the ways that nourish ourselves and our community. And our spirituality also requires we look outward. Our spiritual call in this moment is to stay awake. To support affected communities and individuals where possible. To hold injustice up into the light and not be resolved to a norm that tears families apart and scares people from leaving their homes.  To feed people, shelter people, lighten their loads.  Not staying in our seats means making Love real. Love being our core and motivating force. Join me this weekend for worship.  Stand up with me for some kit making, peanut butter sandwich making and to process what is happening in our community!

Let us reflect on these words:

Dont Stay In Your Seats means to:

  • Rise in love.

  • Rise in courage.

  • Rise in solidarity.

  • Rise in hope.

Read those lines out loud and in your head.

What word or line stands out for you?

Take a deep breath and say that word or line.  Hold it in your minds eye.

Ask it what it is saying to you in th.

And may we rise together.
