Rev. Lori On Opening Our Doors to Others
This reflection was originally published on this date in the Friday Flyer.
Hello Good People,
Under one roof or none,
we gather—hearts open wide—
UU candles flicker hope
where cold sidewalks or doorsteps reside.
Faith is not just words,
but hands that reach and hold,
a promise that every soul
deserves warmth against the cold.
Let our circle widen still,
no one left outside—
In every seeker’s struggle,
Love is our common guide.
These are words that came to me as I reflected on our guest. I was also thinking about the unhoused as expressed a congregational interest and priority from our surveys of the church last year. All these also coincide with our building and the work being done on our roof. Time and interest coming together.
It has been a summer and week of synchronicities for me in general and I feel like the universe starting to tweak time or at least my perception of it. With the changing temperatures, I feel some speeding up of blood flow and attitude and thinking about life.
As we enter the last week of August, I feel so much excitement about coming together again on the 14th for worship together!
In the lectio method I invite you to read the poem above in your head and then out loud. Notice a word or line that stands out for you. Reflect on that, prayer on that to ask what it has to say to you in this moment or time in your life. Take the reading and word or line with you this next week and notice when it comes up for you.
My best wishes for you!
Peace and Blessings,
Rev Lori Whittemore
